Improving your site for SEO
Find out how to customize the meta fields
In order to serve your customers the 💨 fastest knowledge base on earth 🌍, we cache most of the Notion data. This also comes with a neat side benefit: Search engines love fast websites.
Adding your own meta fields
Your meta fields are important for search engines. While we populate sane default meta fields for your site right out of the box, you should make sure to customize them.
HelpKit enables you to change your:
- Meta Title
- Meta Description
- Favicon Image
- MetaOG Image (for Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn etc. banners)
In addition you can also disable search engines from crawling your site by switching the Allow search engines to list this site
toggle.
Auto Generated Sitemap
HelpKit automatically generates a xml
sitemap for all your pages. You can have a look at it by entering the following url into your browser: your_project_name.helpkit.so/sitemap.xml
"A good XML sitemap acts as a roadmap of your website that leads Google to all your important pages. XML sitemaps can be good for SEO, as they allow Google to find your essential website pages quickly" – Yoast SEO
Smart URL Structure
HelpKit is built on a smart url structure for your collections and articles that allow you to easily change titles without breaking the site. This is important as you will likely have your articles linked somewhere throughout the internet. Without our slug structure, someone would not be able to access your article if you happen to change the title.
